A decade or so ago I had the fright of my life I whent home from work one Saturday. I had the urgency to go to the toilet to pass water when all of a sudden of which I can only explain look like a red jelly had exploded against the wall in front of me .i was sitting outside at the time in my garden with a friend from work.i telephoned the NHS helpline but I decided myself to drink a lot of water also of which they also told me to do along with going to see my GP immediately.of which I did . I then whent to King George hospital ilford for a flexible cystoscopy on my bladder at the diagnostic unit ..after having this procedure carried out its was decided that I needed surgery as soon as possible. within no time at all I was seeing the excellent mr Anard kelkar who informed that I had tumours in my bladder and he and his excellent team would remove them and following that they would take biopsies from my bladder ect.. My operation was a success as I was informed of this by. Mr kelkar himself .i stayed at King George for day a day or so to recover.the staff are excellent here on the wards .at this time I was a smoker and mr kelkar said to me that smoking can contribute to me getting tumours in my bladder from then onwards I had another operation I believe before the same year was out. then one every six months or so after having an flexible cystoscopy with more scans on my urinery tract and over a period of time two courses of chemotherapy inserted into my bladder .all the results of these procedures were a success for me then came a time maybe seven years ago now and after another operation on my bladder I whent for out patients appointment and was seen by mr kelker whom informed me that my opinion was once again a success for me but he emphasised to me in no uncertain terms that it was now the time to stop smoking because for a man of my age I was very healthy and lucky that I had not been affected with other medical issues around my smoking habit.he has this skill of getting your attention a very assertive kind man who loves his job.i finally listened to mr kelkar and New Year's 2011 I finally gave up smoking no smoking AIDS .best advice anyone has ever given me in my life so far .and after the following summer having had my flexible done again I neve had another operation for a couple of years and even then they found nothing.i would also like to say at this point I have been to queens hospital Romford to for x Ray's other appointments ect.. All the staff are excellent there also.so up until my last flexible cystoscopy which was last year November time 2018 after having informed that I would need another following operation as they had seen something untowards in my bladder .an d that I should expect to have my operation within the next few weeks . that coming weekend I though I had a bad flu or cold sweating profusely hit and cold didn't feel good at all never had anything like it before.i immediately whent to see my excellent GP who's name is dr chowdhury he was not at surgery for what ever reasons I saw another doctor explained my symptoms but I never mentioned that I had my flexible cystoscopy a couple of days ago she believed that I had the flu or a cold .i was feeling the same exactly the same I had been drinking fresh crushed lemon juice ect.. .then I received a telephone call from doctor chowdhury informing me that he had been intouch with King George hospital and between him and the person he had spoken to realised that I had in fact caught an infection from my flexible procedure I was then put on a course of antibiotics. But this deleyed my forth coming operation.i eventually had my operation and of which I had some biopsies taken from my bladder I was then sent for to have Mri scans a week after very impressive as always so professional. In January I was informed by a telephone call from one of the nurses at King George hospital that my scans were all clear and my operation whent well for me to and that I would have to come back in till June time for my flexible cystoscopy. I whent for my outpatients appointment a couple of weeks ago at queens hospital to see one of mr kelkar said team for a summary of my operation.whilst waiting outside for my appointment mr kelkar came out of a consultants room and he remembers everyone this man he then asked of me why I was here i then explained to him why I was there and that I hadn't seen him for quite a while he informed me that he was now performing Prostatectomy surgery robotics . I was amazed at what he told me .he then said to me to follow him into his consultancy of which I did.we sat ourselves down he then said to his personal nurse whose name was grace and of which I recognised from her working at King George hospital.for her to go and tell doctor of his team that he would be seeing me instead of him .i was sitting right beside mr kelkar and he explained everything to me showing me what he was reading .he the ask me if I have had a blood test for my prostrate recently and scans .i told him no he then gave me the slip to take to have a blood test for this. And informed me regardless of the blood test results of which I got the very next day amazingly.that he still wants me to have the scans to follow my blood test was normal.i now have an appointment for on the 2/3/2019 at queens hospital for MRI scans .i would also like to say that at one of my previous flexible cystoscopy check ups and having received a telephone call from a nurse from King George hospital asking me why I hadn't attended my flexible cystoscopy check up I informed her that hadn't received a letter but had had problems with Royal Mail deliveries.she immediately made another appointment for me .if it wasn't for her professionalism and going beyond I would have had to go back to my GP to start some processes again .once again mr kelkar has done something for me and my health saving me time and illness.by him getting me to have a blood test after not even supposed to be seeing him MRI scans saving me months of time by me going to my doctor with a complaint about my prostrate and most probably preventing more damage to if I eventually need a operation to follow the scans.i know for fact that if I was to go private I would only see someone like mr Keller or his team but would cost thousands of which I have not got and would not get any better treatment or care..so it is with great pleasure that I owe myself owe a great debt to the NHS and all the staff that work here many thanks for your care and professionalism in looking after me and others.kingd regards mr Peter newins.

Consultation was very relaxed and clear . Mr Kelkar took time to make sure I understood what was being said, using diagrams where necessary. My GP was given regular written updates from Mr Kelkar.

Consultation with Mr Kelkar couldn’t have been better. He discussed my condition, alternative treatments - both recommendations and several treatments he considered most unwise. He suggested a course he considered most appropriate and informed us fully of the prognosis of such a procedure and the benefits to be gained from it. He is a fine and gifted man, and was able to explain complicated procedures in a very easy to understand way. Also, his nurse, Myra, is the finest nurse we have yet encounter d.

Doctor was very clear and precise on the details of my condition and he explained things at my pace of understanding, which helped me greatly on understanding the situation. First class recommended to anyone reading this review.

I had Robotic assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy surgery for prostate cancer, at UCLH at the back end of June this year. Surgery was performed by Mr Anand Kelkar. My initial meeting with Mr Kelkar was on the morning of surgery, at a time when I was as anxious and worried as I had ever been, since discovering that I had prostate cancer. Mr Kelkar explained, in very simple, sensitive terms, what the actual surgery involved and checked my understanding of the procedure. He has a very gentle, confident way about him and informed me that the procedure was quite straightforward. The discussion could not have lasted more than five minutes, if that. But he somehow managed to put my mind at ease. On the morning after surgery, Mr Kelkar visited the ward to update me on the surgery. He said it involved nerve-sparing procedure and that everything went very well. Today, I feel as good as gold and I’m pretty much back to normal. I just cannot thank Mr Kelkar enough! A huge ‘Thank You’ also to all the members UCLH nursing team both in-house and online who have helped me back to good health. The support and caring that I have had post-surgery, has been first class! R Harris
